Terms of service

Note

The Terms of service are German only. You are reading the English courtesy translation.

§ 1 Scope

The scope of these terms of use is all data concerning registration and change requests of IGSN, which are entered by the user or on behalf of the user via the IGSN service of the computer centre of the Kiel University. These data include in particular the metadata describing a sample and not the actual samples as such. Users are persons who have applied for access to the IGSN service: Researchers at Kiel University.

§ 2 Several authors and contributors

If several persons have jointly collected or processed the posted data, they are co-authors or contributors of the data. The registration of an IGSN and publication of the metadata can therefore only take place with the consent of all persons involved. By registering the data, the registering user assures that all persons involved have granted him/her the necessary rights for this publication.

§ 3 Granting of rights

The user irrevocably grants the Computer Centre of the Kiel University the non-exclusive (simple) right to reproduce the data on the university’s own servers, to store it and to make it accessible in electronic form via international data networks for an unlimited period of time. Furthermore, he/she instructs the computer centre to assign an IGSN for the research dataset. The user is free to dispose of this data in other ways as long as the rights granted to the Computing Centre of Kiel University are not restricted.

The user grants the Computing Centre of Kiel University the right to convert the data into other electronic formats or to have it converted and renamed if necessary (e.g. migration, accessibility, better indexing, ensuring future viability).

§ 5 Desired contents

Only samples that are related to the user’s research activities at Kiel University and have scientific relevance are eligible for IGSN registration.

The relevance and quality of the samples must in principle meet the requirements of publicationworthiness and citability that go hand in hand with the award of an IGSN.

Only registrations that meet the requirements for registration of IGSNs will be accepted. In particular, holding samples in accordance with the DFG Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice is a prerequisite for using the IGSN service.

The Computing Centre of Kiel University is not liable for damages caused by the posted data in systems of third parties.

As a member of the TIB DOI Consortium, Kiel University registers IGSN via the service offered by DataCite. Thus, the Terms of Use of TIB as well as the Terms of Use of DataCite additionally apply.

§ 6 Licensing for third parties

The user releases the registration data belonging to the registered IGSN for general use under the Creative Commons licence CC0.
