Instructions for registering IGSN IDs

Follow these simple steps to register your IGSN ID:

  1. Ensure Repository Access: Make sure you have access to a repository where your IGSN IDs will be hosted. If you need access, learn more here.

  2. Create registration request: Utilize the IGSN Manager to create necessary registration metadata and submit your request.

  3. Review Process: The Research Data Management team will review your registration request. Upon approval, you will receive an email notification.

Tip

When submitting your request, you must provide a URL for a landing page dedicated to the sample. The IGSN service offers default landing pages based on your metadata. If these suffice, simply select this option. Alternatively, link your IGSN to a customised landing page for tailored features and additional sample information.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues while registering your IGSN ID, here are a few things you can try:

  • Check that your metadata meets the requirements of the metadata schema. You can use the IGSN Manager to validate your metadata and see if there are any errors.

  • Make sure that your account is properly linked to a repository that you have access to.

  • If you use a custom landing page, ensure that your landing page URL is in the allowed list for that specific repository.

  • If you’re having trouble applying for an account or accessing the IGSN Manager, you can contact us for assistance.
