# IGSN Service – Documentation

Welcome to the IGSN service documentation provided by Kiel University's [Central
Research
Data Management](https://www.fdm.uni-kiel.de/en) and [Computing Centre](https://www.rz.uni-kiel.de/en).
This service is open to all university employees and institutions, offering:

- Free IGSN IDs for unique identification of physical samples.
- Creation of IGSN metadata for precise sample citation and retrieval.
