# Requirements :::{note} As a Kiel University member, you can access the IGSN service to obtain IGSN IDs for your physical samples. To register an IGSN ID, you must have an employee or institutional account. ::: To make sure your request for an IGSN ID is approved, you'll need to meet certain requirements: - **Ensure that the physical sample associated with the IGSN ID will be archived** and made accessible for the long term, in accordance with the rules of [Good Scientific Practice](https://www.dfg.de/foerderung/grundlagen_rahmenbedingungen/gwp/) of the DFG, e.g., by archiving in the sample storage of the associated institution. - **Make sure that the samples associated with the IGSN ID meet a certain level of content quality**, meaning they are worthy of being cited in academic work. - **Submit metadata for the IGSN ID** through the [IGSN Service](https://igsn.uni-kiel.de), following the guidelines in the [metadata schema](../specifications/metadata_schema). You will also need to maintain this metadata over the long term.
